Catwalk, News By Nicky Clarke Salons

New York Fashion Week SS12

New York Fashion Week kicked off a month’s worth of shows and true to form did not disappoint with Marc Jacobs offering up New York’s most theatrical show this season. Fresh with new age limit law’s set by the CFDA to eliminate any models taking to the catwalk under the age of 16, models now have to turn up with valid ID.

Marc Jacobs – as is ever becoming the case at NY Fashion Week – was causing quite a stir after he spoke for the first time regarding a possible move as Creative Director to Dior and after all this we then divulged into what was a week’s worth of tantalizingly diverse hairstyles.

Thakoon, intuited a sense of the Japanese Avante-Garde sending girls down the runway with candy rainbow coloured hair and circus theatrics really playing in the recent influx of rainbow tones we’re seeing celebrities change their colour too” says Nicky Clarke

“Diane Von Furstenberg really stood out for me with lots of height; everything thrown up with the texture really matte. Lots of hairspray used; it was decadent but still maintained an effortless ease.

Accessories were also key. The scattered black twig like pieces woven in at the back of the models’ hair at Jason Wu really stood out” added Nicky Clarke.

“Wet Glossy almost Healthy Grungy, if you will; hair with a distinct nod to the 90s was at the forefront of the trends from New York. Alexander Wang, Victoria Beckham and Prabal Gurung all sent girls down the catwalk looking really fierce almost Girl Bikery” said Warren Holmes, International Creative Director, Nicky Clarke.

“For me, you have to look at Marc Jacobs to set the tone for the season. He’s the man at the minute and his team is so strong. The girls at his shows wore loose lived in hair with a short almost pixie fringe that was separated” added Warren Holmes.
