The Annual Golden Globes held at Beverly Hilton Hotel, Beverly Hills kicked off the forthcoming awards season and reiterated the importance of hair on the Red Carpet with exceptional attention to detail to serve endless interesting soft, sexy hairstyles.
We speak to Nicky Clarke and Warren Holmes to get the Red Carpet scope and tips on some of their favourite’s.
Michelle Williams
‘The sumptuous Michelle Williams has gone a darker shade. Personally I prefer her as a platinum blonde; it makes her more striking. Here we see her at closer to her natural colour coupled with a hair bow. She still looks Pixie, still looks endearing, she never fails to get it right in my opinion. Tilda Swinton
‘I was recently asked to pick my favourite modern day celebrity Hair icons and Tilda Swinton was on that list. Every time we see her on the runway she mixes it up and utilises the versatility of her hair created by the haircut.
The haircut is the key component to this shape working as well as having vast versatility. The short sides and back, decreasing in length at the perimeter offer drama throughout the shape on top thus enabling more versatility and impact. The ends still need to be blunt for more definition.
To get this look, set the hair in medium Velcro rollers and blow out, raking through the hair with your fingers and a putty for separation,’ says Warren Holmes
Nicole Richie
‘Im really fond of Nicole’s hair at the Golden Globes. She wears a striking high ponytail nodding to the 60’s influenced by Bardot with height and a heavy 60s fringe.
It’s different and something we haven’t seen much of, yet it’s really easy and a take on something similar we would do at the shows; that’s what it felt like to me, Runway Hair.
From the front it looked Bardot, a high pony but only when you got the side profile did you see how beautiful and chic it was. The back and sides are pulled into a high pony with a section at the crown left and teased above; this allows the insertion of the extensions which give the hair it’s length and drama,’ says Warren Holmes
Angelina Jolie
‘Simple and chic and that is it. I thought she nailed it! It is simply a ponytail separated into three sections and wrapped around each other clockwise and secured into a bun with grips. Note, for this style to really have impact the colour is important. I like her with her hair off her face, she has a great jaw structure, it really works for her,’ says Warren Holmes
Claire Danes
‘Quiffs are huge this season and I loved the simplicity of her masculine look that simply rolled into a knot at the back of her head. To easily create this look, prep the hair using Nicky Clarke Great Body Ultimate Mousse and dry from the roots setting the hair away from the face using large rollers. Brush out and make a side part; clip the quiff in and gently pull back into a pony. Twist the pony clockwise then wrap back on itself. Secure with a snag band and grips,’ says Nicky Clarke
