READY TO WEAR HAIR STYLES SS2011

Spring Summer 2011 is here, we speak to Nicky Clarke and International Creative Director Warren Holmes to get there insider tips for this season’s ‘Ready to Wear’ Hairstyles for you the woman at home.

1. Double Knot Ponytail

The stand out hair trend for Spring Summer 2011, replacing last years Alexander Wang side plait.

Similar to that seen at Michael Kors, The Double Knot is simple and easy to achieve with a cheeky twist, all the things the Spring summer woman should aspire too.

It is simple to do. Pull the hair to the occipital bone, split down the middle and knot left side over right and repeat. Pull the first knot back on itself so the bevel is visible. Use a pin to cover the split in hair above the knot and use a grip to secure the bottom knot to the head by sliding underneath. Sea Salt spray creates the perfect tousled texture for this look, use on wet or dry hair.

2. Low KnotNina Ricci

The little cute chignon shaped knot at the nape of the neck seen at Nina Ricci is from a key trend this season: ‘Small Head Updos’. It has a similar feeling to the back to school ponytail but this updo has a quality to it, an element of glamour, so there needs to be a dimension of control to it be it a perfectly sculpted knot or chignon that shines and looks decadent or just a really clean parting. To get the look, work from a centre parting, cover the ears and pull into a low ponytail and then backcomb giving it some guts to be able to mould into the desired shape, secure with pins and grips.

3. Ropes and Twists – Louis Vuitton

Ropes and twists are ideal for spring summer, removing hair length into a style freeing up the neck area with detail. The look at Louis Vuitton works in a deep side part creating a sweeping fringe that twists over the ears on each side. Carry on twisting clockwise to the ends, joining more hair as you continue, secure the ends with a snag band, take both twists and knot together, pinning in to the head.

4. Summer Festival TextureProenza Schouler

The rigours of Summer Festivals create wonderful texture in hair, a texture we should work with and expose. Hair feels lived in, worn with elements of oily dirty hair contradicted by blasts of Dry Shampoo and Hairspray added to the hair to even out texture. What is required is an effortlessly chic style that can be maintained fuss-free. This seasons festival hair was seen on the catwalk at Proenza Schouler.

5. Back to School PonytailCeline

Channel the feeling of the young girl on the playground. Her mother has quickly pulled her hair into a low ponytail at the bottom of her head,; it’s effortless, youthful and naive. Create a middle parting, pull the hair loosely or tight over the ears and pull into a low ponytail. Style the pony as understated as you wish. To make the look feel more editorial create a little volume at the crown only and relax the texture by rubbing your hands on the surface of hair to create a static effect.

6. 70’s FringeKate Moss for Longchamp

The 70s fringe made a serious comeback on the streets of New York at Fashion Week AW 2011/12, It has reached London at an alarming rate and recently been seen on Kate Moss for Longchamp’s Spring Summer campaign. The fringe is what it is: a heavy fringe that moves, it’s sexy, elegant and can be worn carefree or serious. Think Studio 54; a look all women aspired for in the 70s.
