Autumn Winter 2011 Campaign

Fashion Hair is something Nicky Clarke has become synonymous with. Nicky and his team have created endless campaigns over the last 20 years.

Most recently, International Creative Director Warren Holmes styled Daisy Lowe’s Hair for fine jeweller Stephen Webster’s Autumn Winter campaign.

Warren’s radically expressive, beautiful, yet very much wearable styles, have been seen on the runway for such diverse fashion houses such as Chanel, Vivienne Westwood, Diane von Furstenberg, Michael Kors, John Rocha, Armani, Matthew Williamson, Aquascutum, Issa, Berardi, Amanda Wakeley and many more.

With that in mind Nicky and Warren take you through this season’s leading Autumn Winter 2011 Campaigns.

  • Nicole Farhi

  • Giorgio Armani
  • Burberry
  • Bally
  • Alexander Wang
  • Coach
  • Emporio Armani

“I can’t stress the importance of infusing fashion and salon work; I’ve always believed in overlapping the two. I spend as much time in the salon as I do in the studio. It’s important to know all your references and have the knowledge to educate and inform your clients” says Nicky Clarke.

“It’s about bridging the gap between Catwalk/Fashion and salon hair, and more importantly doing it tastefully. We as hairdressers should always know what’s going on in fashion but it’s making it accessible to the client. If you forget the women on the street or she can’t relate to it then it becomes meaningless” says Warren Holmes.

“Lots of hair accessories are used this season.  We see them at Louis Vuitton shot by Steven Meisel and Prada, they don’t clash the texture, which I like. The same materials and fabric you see on their bodies also features in a headpiece. Mario Testino shooting Burberry, for me, always sets a tone for the season. They always have younger models, and they’re not your traditional thin girls either; they go for character in the face. Again hats are used on models; Edie Campbell and Cara Delevingne with hair loose and framing around the face which we will see a lot of this season” says Nicky Clarke.

  • Dolce and Gabbana Madonna
  • Marc Jacobs
  • Tom Ford
  • Salvatore Ferragamo
  • DKNY

Tom Ford’s campaigns are usually always my favourite; they’re sexy and really do push what is aloud. He was like it at Gucci; very provocative all about sex and temptation. There is always an emphasis on hair and make-up which I like. His recent campaign shot by Mert&Marcus is no different. The Dolce & Gabanna campaign featuring Madonna is a great story that really captures the mood of the financial depression we’re in. You can imagine her – the housewife – all dolled up in a typical English suburb putting the washing out on the line, I love this campaign” says Warren Holmes.

DKNY shot the obligatory New York shot with yellow cab driving past leafy Central Park. I particularly like the colours used and the density of her Hair. Marc Jacobs’s campaigns are always interesting; he really does set the bar at Fashion Week kicking it off in New York, here we see Helena Bonham Carter, a former client of mine, in an eye catching slightly off the cuff campaign. Hair on the campaigns this season has certainly taken a back seat” says Nicky Clarke.

  • Gucci
  • Roberto Cavalli

“Great use of colours by Mert & Marcus for Gucci’s fall campaign; it has a real vintage feel to it, really psychedelic too. Hair actually plays some importance, it’s really manicured and decadent. Daria Werbowy – possibly my favourite model – was the perfect choice for Salvatiore Ferragamo’s campaign that had a real 60s feel to it which is a massive feeling in Hair this season.  Roberto Cavalli shot again by Mert & Marcus really summed up this season for me. It’s all about women exploring different sides of their personalities’ and creating an alter ego. The Hair at Bally was interesting, the texture in the Hair mirrored that of the clothes and furnishings -  a good autumn winter campaign” says Warren Holmes.
