The uber chic Venice Film Festival – the oldest film festival in the world – recently took in the historic Palazzo del Cinema on the Lungomare Marconi.
The Italian sunshine encourages attendees to be slightly bolder with their fashion and hair than usual, this year attracting stars like Madonna, Keira Knightley and Gwyneth Paltrow.
We speak to Nicky Clarke to get his take on what hair styles dazzled the red carpet.
“I particularly liked Shengyi Huang’s look. The texture of her pony tail didn’t clash with the dress at all and actually paid complement to her Salvatore Ferragamo’s gown. This will be a huge look throughout Autumn Winter 2011/2012; the two contrasts in texture and the pony tail. How wonderful to see Cindy Crawford back on the red carpet, red really is her colour and again the hair was sleek.
Diane Kruger never conforms does she? Always a little different and here you can see she wears her hair tousled when everybody else around her it would seem are a little more relaxed.”
“I also liked Madonna. She looked stunning. She always shows such versatility with her look. She transcends real iconic beauty. I loved her look, it was slightly nodding to a 40s / 50s era, with the back quaffed and groomed back, the hair curled and brushed out. Mousse and hairspray are two essential products for this look.
The Venice Film Festival regularly gets such a good turn out, possibly down to the fact it’s the last highlight of the summer. Hair had a really relaxed fresh feel to it. Gwyneth Paltrow and Keira Knightley all wearing their hair straight and smooth with very little movement.”
